So today, I was searching onto YouTube and I came across the video call [Why Asians Have To Be The One Cosplaying Anime Characters] that is just basically saying that Asians are the only one who can cosplay anime characters because they look the best.
Okay, nothing wrong with that. I see that as an opinion so I don't take it personally. Then she lists the reasons why Asians should be the only one to cosplay. Basically, her reasons are that only Asians can ONLY FOREVER cosplay as anime characters and "western people" can only cosplay as "western cartoons." 'Why? Because she find it that whenever "western people" cosplay as anime characters, "western people" are mocking, insulting and being racists towards Asians because we are making fun of their Asian culture by cosplaying as an anime character because apparently "all 'western people' look bad when cosplaying anime characters and can't do anything to make it look better." I may be stretching the truth but that is how I feel about it because I am a proud American who loves my country and appreciates other cultures and I want to learn and experience them. It feels like what she is trying to say is that "western people" can never cosplay anime characters because when they do, they insult and make fun of Asians because they look bad.
That hurts to me in other ways because I find that other people whom are non-Asians do wonderful jobs at cosplaying. I do not believe that by us cosplaying anime characters, we are making fun of Asians or insulting them.
In fact, I find it insulting when she talks about "Asian Pride" here:
This days there are more and more westerner who claim as Asian while they don't have what makes someone deserve to be called as Asian or don't have what makes someone have the rights to call themselves as Asian, such as :
- Not have 100% or pure Asian blood, someone who does not have pure Asian blood will not have pure loyalty towards Asian.
- Not have Asian country nationality such as Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, etc. Someone who does not have Asian country nationality will also have no pure loyalty towards Asian.
- Not born and raised with Asian cultures & traditions which makes them don't have the Asian way of thinking and doing.
because I have known many people whom are partly Asian or didn't grow up in an Asian cultured house-hold and do have alot of pride of their heritage and having someone say "NO! You are not again just because you are part Asian!" or "because you didn't grow up with Asian culture in your house!"
It hurts to me because I am Mexican or Latina, or Hispanic or something else of that meaning and I am sure proud of that but throughout my life, people told me "No! You are not Mexican (or Latina or Hispanic) because you don't know Mexican!" or "You've never been to Mexico," or other stuff like that. I can understand that in a weird way but I find that offensive.

The bottom line is If you are an Asian descendant, do you find it insulting when someone dresses up as an anime character who isn't Asian?"

And by the way, what is your definition of Asian?
To me, it means anyone who is a descendant or their heritage comes from the continent of Asia.

NOTE: I AM NOT MAKING FUN OF ASIANS. I AM NOT TRYING TO BE FUNNY. I AM JUST ANGRY BECAUSE I FEEL INSULTLED BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL BAD ABOUT MYSELF TO BE AN AMERICAN GIRL SINCE WE CAN'T COSPLAY JUST BECAUSE IT LOOKS "BAD" TO HER. I FEEL THAT IT ISN'T AN OPINION BUT SHE WOULD LIKE TO BAND "WESTERN PEOPLE" FROM COSPLAYING ANIME CHARATERS BECAUSE IT LOOKS "BAD" ON US TO HER. WE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT COSPLAY ANYONE WE FEEL LIKE BECAUSE IT REALLY DOESN'T CAUSE ANYONE HARM. DO THESE PICTURE OFFEND ANYONE?
